Publication of FSSC 22000 Version 6.0

The new version of FSSC version 6.0 was published on April 2023, this standard replaces FSSC version 5.1.

Validity of FSSC Version 5.1

All clients must be ready to be audited against the upgraded version of FSSC Version 6.0 by 1st April 2024. 

Existing version (version 5.1) validity is until 31st March 2025 only.

Factors for Upgrading to New Version: 
• Incorporating the requirements of ISO 22003-1:2022
• Strengthening the requirements to support organizations in their contributions to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
• Editorial changes and amendments as part of continuous improvement

What are the most important changes and additions in version 6 compared to version 5.1?
• Changes in the food chain categories
• New chapter included: 
1. Food Safety and Quality Culture 
2. Quality Control
3. Equipment Management
4. Food Loss and Waste
5. Communication Requirements

Thus, we (Kiwa International Certifications (M) Sdn Bhd) are currently adjusting towards the transition and all clients shall adhere to the guidelines set up below in order to comply with the new version requirements.

Transition of Certification to New Version

Rules for Transitioning certification to be new Version are as follows:

• New clients may apply for certification to FSSC Version 5.1 as long as the respective audit is completed within 31st March 2024.
• All existing clients or new clients who choose to be upgrade/certified must be audited to the new version from 1st April 2024. 
• A new certificate will be issued for successfully upgrading to FSSC Version 6.
• All existing clients with FSSC Version 5.1 must be audited and certified to FSSC Version 6 by 31st March 2025. 
• The client’s original expiry of certification date will not change (e.g., upgrading to version 6 may be achieved at a Surveillance.
• Audit but the next Recertification audit will remain as scheduled).
